New Jersey Museum of Agriculture

A Heritage to Preserve. A Future to Explore.

Volunteers are the “heart and soul” of the New Jersey Museum of Agriculture. Volunteers of all ages play a vital role in the Museum’s ability to “tell the story of the Garden State’s agriculture - - past, present and future.” Listed below are areas in which volunteers are needed to help the Museum carry out this mission:

* School Programs – volunteers are trained to present elementary school children with various hands-on educational programs on weekday mornings throughout the academic year and for summer camp groups.

* Gallery Tours– volunteers are trained to provide older students and adults with guided tours through the galleries at the Museum.

* Weekend Special Events – volunteers with no special skills or training are needed to assist with special thematic events on weekend. These popular events are designed for families with children and volunteers perform a wide variety of fun tasks: simple demonstrations like pressing apple cider, showing children how the automatic milking machine works, assisting with parking or event registration, supervising the galleries, and helping children with craft activities.

* Curatorial Department – volunteers are needed to work on specific projects involving the Museum’s collection of historical artifacts or archives, including, cataloging, restoration/conservation, data processing, and more.

* Clerical Department – volunteers are often needed to assist with occasional mailings, data processing, filing, and other clerical tasks.

Volunteer commitments are flexible…volunteer as occasionally or regularly as you like. Volunteers may choose to participate in several ways or in only those in which they have interest. In every case, volunteers at the New Jersey Museum of Agriculture decide how they would like to help “…tell the story of the Garden State’s agriculture.”

The Museum also encourages individuals who need to fulfill an in-service volunteer component as part of a community service program on a one-time or limited basis. Whether it is for your employer, service organization, church group, school/class project, or scout group, your volunteer help would be welcomed.

Please consider becoming a volunteer and be a part of the New Jersey Museum of Agriculture's team that puts the spotlight on the people, products and ingenuity that has made the Garden State a leader in the field of agriculture.

For information about becoming a volunteer, please contact the Museum at (732) 249-2077 or email: info@agriculturemuseum.org

You’re sure to find volunteering at the New Jersey Museum of Agriculture to be an enriching experience!
